The Chairperson of the House leads not just the House, but the House Committee. He ensures the House Committee stays accountable and looks after the House's interests as a whole. He focuses on long-term investments for the House and leaves a lasting legacy.
The Chairperson is in charge of the discipline of the House and ensures that the rules prescribed by TuksRes are complied with. Furthermore, the role of Discipline also extends to keeping House Members accountable to their actions as House TAU members, inside or outside of the House.
The role of Senior Guardian is created to ensure that the interests of the seniors are always looked after and to create opportunities for the seniors to still feel a part of the House. The seniors of House TAU are any third years and above.
The Alumni roles provides for the creation of incentives to entice former House Boekenhout, as well as House TAU members to come back and explore the residence that they have once called home, once again.

Wellbeing Advocacy and Support focuses on monitoring and promoting residents' mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing by serving as a bridge to university support services, such as the Student Counselling Unit, and implementing programs that address challenges like mental health, substance use, interpersonal skills, and the transition to university life. The Wellbeing sessions are also implemented as a way of getting across the necessary information of where to get help if needed!
The Transformation sub-portfolio, part of the Wellbeing portfolio, promotes diversity, inclusivity, and equality in House TAU, fostering awareness and respect for the diverse identities and cultures within the residence.

The Academics portfolio focuses on maintaining the house's academic standards by supporting students facing academic challenges through organized tutoring sessions. Additionally, the Better Brother Initiative, a key part of the portfolio, pairs each first- year student with a senior mentor. This mentor assists in adapting to university life, offering guidance in academics, social life, and mental well-being.
The role of Semi-Guardian is designed to support students at different stages of their residence journey. The Semi-Guardian ensures that Semis (second-year students) actively participate in residence activities while maintaining their mental well-being and academic performance. The Semi Guardian focuses on safeguarding the interests of our semi students, fostering a sense of belonging, and creating opportunities for them to remain engaged with the House.
The Archives serve as a vital cornerstone of the House’s rich history, preserving invaluable artifacts, photographs, and clothing that embody its legacy. Ensuring the archives remain meticulously maintained and organised is essential to honouring and safeguarding this heritage for future generations.
The FYG of the House mans the first year program and ensures that the first years are well integrated into the house, but also into the University. The First Year Guardian caters for the needs of the first years and also teaches our Ysters what it means to be a well-rounded House TAU Gentlemen.
Traditions and Values are essential components of the House, and they ensure that the house maintains its identity. The HC responsible for these ensures that all residents foster everything we stand for and ensures that our traditions don’t fall flat.
The Internal Projects portfolio has two key elements: socials and facilities. Socials, the highlight of residence activities, include Friday gatherings where House TAU invites a ladies residence to the Baltsazar clubhouse for a social. These memorable events are organized by the Internal Projects House Committee member, with the support of the "Social Comm," a team of 30 residents who serve as barmen to uphold the excellence of the clubhouse experience.
Facilities focus on maintaining the residence building. From plumbing and lighting issues to jammed doors, the Internal Projects HC collaborates with our Building Coordinator, Tannie Charmaine, to ensure the smooth functioning and upkeep of the residence.
The Sports Portfolio is all about bringing the res together through sports, promoting well-being, diversity, and growth, and to not just compete competitively, but to also have fun. From organising games on the TuksSport timetable to getting everyone hyped about different sports, especially the underrated ones – it’s all about connection and fun.
The Nothing But Vernac Portfolio is dedicated to celebrating linguistic and cultural diversity by overseeing and facilitating the annual Nothing But Vernac Competition, a platform that empowers students to express themselves in their native languages. This portfolio further extends into a cultural appreciation and celebration day for the House, to ensure that each resident feels seen and appreciated.
Standing for Reach Out And Give, RAG is primarily focused on community engagement in which everything that we do is centered around giving back to the community. These are communities around Hatfield and can range from within our very own residence to schools, to old age homes and can involve outreaches such as food drives, blood drives and planting vegetables. Also, each year we are assigned a female residence with whom we do various outreaches with, but also celebrate the concept of RAG during our RAG Week!
The focus is on making sure that everyone in House TAU has merchandise to emphasise unity in our residence as this is what we stand for and believe that no one should ever feel left out. The merchandise includes House TAU branded shirts, jackets, and our famous House TAU branded underwear that we make to be affordable to everyone in the residence.
Debate allows everyone the opportunity to express themselves in this sport through the skill of speaking and bringing a point forward. There are two tournaments held annually: STUKU Debate and TuksRes Debate which provide more than enough opportunities - even if you’re a beginner - to get your point across.
Culture External entails the planning, creation and execution of all cultural activities such as 1nsync, Step it Up, A Capella and making sure the House participates in said events in order to be a successful house in the cultural world!
Social Media is an important sub-portfolio as it allows people to view House TAU from an external perspective, keep parents and guardians updated and entice potential Ysters to our House.
House Spirit is a sub-portfolio that truly encompasses what it means to be a member of House TAU because at any given moment, House TAU is finding the perfect opportunity to display the pride they have in their house through war cries, amagwijo and songs that resonate with the House!
The Secretariat of the House firstly manages all of the Administration of the House Committee, but furthermore ensures that all relevant communication from TuksRes is sent out to Residents.
The Development Program is our newly implemented system which will ensure that House TAU never stays stagnant. The Program encourages participation, but more than that, recognition of every resident that contributes to the growth of the House.
The Newsletter is released to the residents after each semester and highlights all events and achievements that took place within the semester.
The Treasury portfolio entails the management of House Funds, and ensures payments are made timeously. Furthermore, to restrict exhaustive spending, the treasurer creates budgets in order for the House to build on its reserves.
Furthermore, Fundraising entails the creation of events that will generate money for necessities in the House such as the Food Bank that we have for our residents in need.
The Yearbook documents all of the events that happened throughout the year and allows for the House to continue adding to the Archives each year.
